PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday reaffirmed his administration’s policy of zero tolerance against corruption and human rights violations which he said should extend from the PNP to other government agencies.
During the oath-taking of the second batch of promoted police generals in Malacanang, Marcos reiterated that there is no room for police officials who engage in corruption, abuse of power, and other illegal activities under the “New Philippines.”
“It is imperative that we reiterate our zero-tolerance policy for corruption and human rights abuses within the PNP and for that matter in all of government,” Marcos said.
“In the New Philippines that we are establishing, there is no place for corruption, abuse of power and other illegal activities,” he added.
The President said ranking police officers should lead by example and help lead the nation toward genuine and meaningful transformation.
Marcos also told them to nurture a bond of mutual respect and support with the public, adding the police force should earn the faith and confidence of the people.
“As officials, you are responsible for ensuring that all PNP personnel uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and respect for human rights. I also expect that you will lead by example so that every officer and member under your command will adhere to these same principles,” he said.
He said the people also expect to see reforms and positive changes in the PNP to make it more capable, responsive, and truly corruption-free amidst the current challenges.
The President also said the foundation of effective law enforcement is public trust rooted in constant and open public engagement, as he urged the PNP to prioritize dialogue, collaboration, and cooperation within the communities that they serve.
Marcos reaffirmed the national government’s continued support to the PNP especially on its modernization efforts as he vowed to equip the police force with the latest technology, training, and resources to bolster its capabilities.
“This will enable you to contribute to maintaining peace, which is the backbone of our society’s stability and well-being. Hand in hand, let us lead our nation towards genuine and meaningful transformation,” he said as he expressed hope the recent promotions would inspire them to lead the PNP with excellence and honor toward a “New Philippines that is safer, more just, and more prosperous for every Filipino.”
