PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. is looking forward to visiting Dubai later this year to attend the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) and also to renew and strengthen the Philippines’ relationship with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and promote the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) there.

The President, in an interview at the sidelines of the International Trade Forum organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City, said UAE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi invited him to the 2023 COP at the Expo City in Dubai in December this year.

Marcos said the Ambassador also reaffirmed UAE’s commitment to support the environmental programs and the economy of the Philippines.

“I hope to be able to attend because climate change is a primordial issue when it comes to the Philippines. So, I hope that we will be able to attend. And beyond the Conference of Parties is that we also want to fortify our ties with the UAE. There are a lot of Filipinos there. That’s why we need to ensure that they continue to treat our countrymen well in the UAE,” he said.

The President said Filipinos have been treated well in the UAE, which is something the Philippines hopes to continue “and even progress further.”

Marcos also thanked the UAE anew for its donation to the Mayon residents, which came even before the Philippines could ask the international community.
