PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday recognized the contributions of Filipino seafarers to the country and the sacrifices they make for their families.
The President, in a video message for Filipino Seafarers’ Day, expressed gratitude to the seafarers “who work day and night to support their loved ones and the Filipino people” and expressed hope that their special day would to inspire them to sustain excellence and the Philippines ranking as among the top producers of quality seafarers in the world.
“Since time immemorial, our ancestors had long relied on seafaring to sustain their livelihood and forge economic and trade relations with people from other towns and countries. Over the centuries, our seafarers have explored far horizons to provide food, produce energy, and build the foundation of our nation’s progress… The courage and resilience that you demonstrate despite all the adversities and challenges that come your way show that the centuries-long tradition of Filipino seafaring remains strong and still drives each and every one of you today,” he said.
“Let this moment be a time of celebration for you all. And may it provide a continuing inspiration for you to sustain our excellence in leadership in this important sector,” Marcos added.
The Filipino seafarers have been among the “in demand” seafarers in the world.
In March, the EU said it would continue to recognize the certification of seafarers in the Philippines after the Philippines made “serious developments” to comply with maritime labor requirements.
