PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday said he looks forward to closer collaboration between the Philippines and Taiwan under the leadership of Taiwanese President-elect Lai Ching-Te.
Marcos, in his official X account, congratulated Lai on his election.
“We look forward to close collaboration, strengthening mutual interests, fostering peace, and ensuring prosperity for our peoples in the years ahead,” he said.
Lai, current vice president who is a from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), won last Saturday’s elections which resulted in the party’s third consecutive term.
He was a physician before he entered politics as a legislator representing Tainan City in 1996.
He later served as mayor of Tainan for two terms (2010 and 2014), before becoming the premier in 2017, and later the vice president — a post he held since 2020.
