PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. and visiting Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala are expected to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the Philippines and Czech Republic, along with cooperation agreements on defense, trade and investment, judiciary, labor and people-to-people exchanges when they meet today.

The President and the Prime Minister, who arrived on Sunday, are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern.

Fiala will be accorded welcome honors and an official dinner in Malacañang where the meeting will also be held.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said Fiala’s visit is an important milestone in the diplomatic relations between Manila and Prague as the two countries commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on October 5.

Marcos and Fiala met in December 2022 in Brussels, on the sidelines of the commemorative summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union (EU), where they discussed cooperation in the security sector in the context of the modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Philippine and Czech officials convened the Joint Defense Committee in 2019.
