PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. resumes his public engagements today after his bout with “flu-like symptoms” that resulted in cancellation and rescheduling of some of his appointments and activities last week.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) yesterday said the President and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos have “completely recovered from their flu-like symptoms and are now in excellent health.”
“Their attending physician has confirmed that they are free from all symptoms, enabling them to promptly return to their regular duties, effective immediately,” it added.
The PCO said the President was “in meetings” yesterday. He also attended to some paper work even while he was advised to rest, the PCO said.
Among the President’s activities today are presiding over a sectoral meeting about the El Niño and La Niña situation in the country.
Marcos is also set to receive a congressional delegation from the United States later in the day. Among the visiting American lawmakers are Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Cynthia Lummis, Jeanne Shaheen, Roger Marshall, Mark Kelly, and Michael Bennet, and Rep. Adriano Espaillat.
He is also set to meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The President and the First Lady last week were advised by their physicians to rest and take medication after developing “flu-like symptoms.”
Malacañang said the First Couple had full schedules prior to their getting sick.
The President and First Lady arrived from a working visit in Germany and a state visit in the Czech Republic on March 16 and had full schedules on March 18 and 19.
Last week, the President attended a forum of the World Economic Forum and welcomed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Malacañang, while the First Lady attended the Standard Cup 2024 Awarding Ceremonies at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City and led the Lab for all (Laboratoryo, Konsulta at Gamot para sa Lahat) caravan in Ilagan in Isabela.
Meanwhile, the President said Filipinos join the world in praying for the good health and continued healing of Princes Catherine of Wales and for her family to remain strong following her cancer diagnosis.
“The Filipino people have Catherine, the Princess of Wales, in our thoughts and prayers throughout this challenging time. We pray for her good health and continued healing, and for the strength of her family during this difficult period,” the President said in his official X account.
The Princess, in a video message over the weekend, said that after her abdominal surgery in January, she is now undergoing preventive chemotherapy as post-operative tests showed that “cancer had been present.”
She said it had taken for her and Prince William to explain her condition to their three young children and to assure them that she is going to be okay.
The Princess’ announcement came after her father-in-law, King Charles, announced in February that he was undergoing treatment for cancer.
