PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday urged Filipinos to be more like the Virgin Mary by not succumbing to “individualistic tendencies” and by generously giving to others without expecting anything in return.

The President, in a message for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, said everyone must revisit their “reason for being” and search for their vocation in the spirit of unconditional obedience.

Marcos also urged everyone to “implore divine providence” to overcome limitations, weakness, and flaws.

“Like Mary, may we also strive to resign from our individualistic tendencies and aspire to generously give ourselves without expecting anything in return,” he said.

“As we allow our shared experiences to shape our history and lead us in achieving our nation’s aspirations, let us place our confidence in the Almighty and put our trust in one another. In the intersection of these things, we will certainly learn where to hold on and gain greater courage,” he also said.

Immaculate Conception Day, celebrated on December 8, has been declared as an annual special non-working holiday in the country by virtue of Republic Act 10966 that was signed into law on Dec. 23, 2017 by then president Rodrigo Duterte.
