PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has expressed hope the observance of the month-long Ramadan, which starts today, Monday, would strengthen the Filipinos’ kinship, open their hearts to forgive past grievances and embrace a spirit of harmony that will redound to the country’s progress.

In his Ramadan message, the President joined the Muslim community in observing the month-long observance of fasting and abstinence from worldly pleasures “as a means of purifying their souls and deepening their connection with Allah.

“Today marks the beginning of the sacred journey of Ramadan, a time of reflection and spiritual growth where the virtues of compassion, empathy, and generosity are upheld and practiced fervently…Truly, this demonstration of faith speaks volumes of their deep introspection and shared devotion, allowing them to create a stronger bond in their communities through their beliefs,” Marcos said.

He said Ramadan holds special significance among Filipinos as it serves as a reminder of the rich diversity of cultural and religious tapestry in the Philippines.

“It is with no doubt that our Muslim brothers and sisters have made invaluable contributions to our nation’s history and heritage, shaping our beloved motherland into the diverse and united country that it is today. It is my hope that this month-long celebration will strengthen our kinship, open our hearts to forgive past grievances, and embrace a spirit of harmony that will redound to our collective progress,” he added.

He also urged everyone to work together to build a future “where love and understanding prevail and where the light of hope shines brightly for all.”

The end of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr, which is expected in April depending on the moon sighting, is observed as a holiday in the Philippines.

Malacanang clarified that March 11 or the start of Ramadan is not a holiday.

A fake proclamation order claiming the start of Ramadan is a holiday circulated in social media late last week.
