PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil was angered by the involvement of a police lieutenant colonel in carnapping, PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo said yesterday.
In a press briefing yesterday, Fajardo said Marbil wants the police officer, Lt. Col. Gideon Ines Jr., and other policemen involved in criminal activities dismissed from the service.
“Our Chief PNP is definitely angry,” Fajardo said on the arrest of Ines, who is assigned with the National Capital Region Police Office but is currently in schooling.
“Our PNP chief wants the (administrative) cases against them fast-tracked and he doesn’t want mere suspension or demotion (as a penalty). He wants the dismissal of all policemen involved in illegal activities,” said Fajardo.
Fajardo said the PNP has been constantly reminding its personnel to avoid criminal activities “but some are hard-headed and do not want to be governed by policies.”
Fajardo vowed the PNP will impose the “stiffest penalty against them,” stressing that Marbil wants all erring policemen dismissed from the service.
Ines and two civilian cohorts were arrested in Paranaque City last Wednesday for involvement in the carnapping of a multi-purpose vehicle through the “rentangay” scheme.”
Fajardo said Ines was involved in a similar carnapping case in Pasig City last February but the case was dismissed when the complainant failed to appear in court.
“I was informed that the complainant expressed intention to refile the case,” said Fajardo, adding the complainant did not receive a subpoena, thus his non-appearance in court.
The PNP is also looking into other recent cases involving policemen, including the unauthorized escorting of a social media personality, causing alarm and scandal in Paranaque City, sexual harassment in Bulacan, and extortion on the driver of actor Edu Manzano after committing a traffic violation.
