MAPUA University has launched its Transnational Education Program in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU).
The program, which has been approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), will allow eligible students from Mapua’s business programs to either gain a dual degree or an accelerated masteral program from ASU.
It will also let students who opt to take the accelerated program in the US to work and live in the said country for up to three years upon graduation under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program.
Mapua said the initiative “aims to create greater opportunities for more learners in the Philippines to access world-class education locally and abroad.”
“The collaboration with Arizona State University, the number 1 most innovative university in the US for nine consecutive years, ranked by U.S. News and World Report 2016-2024, will ensure students’ access to the best and industry-relevant curriculum, providing students with a unique opportunity to pursue overseas education,” it also said.
The program will operate under a 3+1 system, where Mapua students shall earn their bachelors degree for the first three years in the Philippines from the E.T. Yuchengco School of Business before they can enroll in ASU to finish a second bachelor’s degree.
Students can opt to transfer to ASU campus in the US or enroll online to complete the dual degree program.
For the accelerated master’s degree pathway, students can achieve a graduate- level degree in just five years instead of the usual six to eight years, with flexible learning setups to fast-track their entry into the professional world.
Degree programs that are part of the dual degree pathways are Bachelor of Science in Business Administration leading to ASU’s Master of Global Management, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration leading to Thunderbird’s Master of Leadership and Management, Bachelor of Science in Marketing and ASU’s Bachelor of Science in Digital Audiences (dual degree), Bachelor of Science in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics and ASU’s Bachelor of Science in Data Science (Business Analytics Track) (dual degree), Bachelor of Science in Global Management and ASU’s Bachelor of Science in International Trade (dual degree).
Mapua president and chief executive officer Dodjie Maestrecampo said applications for the program are now open.
“We are proud to be the first to launch this pathway program in collaboration with ASU to open doors to students who desire to make meaningful change both here and abroad. This is a positive endorsement from ASU, a highly prestigious university in the U.S. endorsing Mapua University as a partner to deliver part of the degree program,” Maestrecampo said in a statement.
“Education plays an important role in preparing students for success in an increasingly interconnected world. Our collaboration with ASU further enables our learners to thrive in this era of rapid technological transformation,” he added.
Earlier, CHED chairperson Prospero de Vera encouraged local universities and colleges to link up, partner and develop programs with international institutions of learning to further boost tertiary education in the country.
