PRESIDENT Duterte has decided to keep the wearing of face shields indoors and outdoors mandatory, presidential spokesman Harry Roque announced yesterday.

Roque said the President’s decision was reached during his meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, where the discussion focused on proposals to ease the restriction on the wearing of face shields when in open spaces.

“Acting on the advice of health experts and in view of the Delta variant, PRRD declared that the wearing of face shields, both indoor and outdoor, is still mandatory,” Roque said in a tweet.

The Department of Health on Monday said four more COVID-19 cases of the Delta variant was detected in the country, while 36 cases from other variants of the coronavirus was also traced.

The President, during a meeting with lawmakers last week, said the use of face shields should be limited to hospitals only.

The IATF, however, recommended the continued use of face shields in enclosed or indoor spaces like public transport and terminals, places of worship, hospitals, schools, workplaces and commercial establishments such as, but not limited to, food establishments, malls and public markets.

DOH Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega had said that people may remove their face shields when outdoors, especially when there is a problem in visibility and when not in a crowd, but people must continue to wear it indoors as these provide an added layer of protection from the coronavirus.
