THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) approved yesterday Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa’s proposal to include mammography and ultrasound screening services in its “Konsulta” benefit package.

“The target implementation will be by June 2024 or earlier, depending on the completion of operational details, such as IT system enhancements,” said Herbosa, chair of the PhilHealth board of directors.

“It is the pleasure of the Board to now bring up primary care benefits with mammogram and ultrasound services, not just in sandbox sites, but nationwide,” he also said.

Herbosa on Tuesday ordered the PhilHealth board to consider expanding the Konsulta benefit package by including mammography and ultrasound screening services.

PhilHealth Konsulta is a primary care benefit package that provides capitation payments for free annual check-ups, selected diagnostics, and medicines.

Mammography and ultrasound screening services help detect breast cancer and other conditions, such as abdominal problems.

Aside from mammography and ultrasound, also under the Konsulta package are complete blood count with platelet count, urinalysis, fecalysis, sputum microscopy, fecal occult blood, Pap smear, lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, oral glucose tolerance test, electrocardiogram, creatinine, and HbA1c.

The Department of Health said PhilHealth has also approved an increase in the capitation rate of PhilHealth Konsulta to P1,700 per patient seen per year.

Private Konsulta package providers (KPPs) will also be allowed to collect a co-payment of up to P900, while patients seen in public KPPs will not be charged extra.
