DESPITE a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, the Diocese of Malolos is lifting exemptions to physical attendance in Masses, “except for those sick and have serious reasons,” Bishop Dennis Villarojo said.

All the faithful are expected to attend Masses physically starting June 11, Villarojo also said in a social media post.

He directed all clergy of the diocese, as well as chaplaincies and Catholic schools, to educate the faithful on the importance of the Sunday obligation.

“Let us ardently encourage the faithful to encounter God through the Church in her communal celebration of the Sacred Mysteries,” he said.

Back in 2020, all dioceses and archdioceses in the country issued dispensation from physically attending Masses in churches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In late 2022, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said it was time to “return to the normality of Christian life,” with the church building the home of the celebration of Masses. This prompted several dioceses and archdioceses to lift the dispensation. — Gerard Naval
