POLICE operatives arrested a Malaysian and his four Filipino cohorts who attempted to abduct a Malaysian businessman in Bamban town in Tarlac last Wednesday.
PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. identified the four as Der Jien Chiw, 33, a Malaysian; and Carmelito Damuya De la Cruz, 58; Alexander Meyer Sumagay, 40; John Rey Perez Valderama, 26 and Obet Endrada Tobias, 40, all Filipinos.
The suspects, aboard a sports utility vehicle, were arrested by responding policemen in Bamban where they blocked a 53-year-old Malaysian businessman aboard his Ford SUV at around 12:30 a.m.
Initial police investigation said the suspects forcibly opened the victim’s vehicle and tried to abduct him.
But security guards of the establishment where the victim works noticed the commotion and immediately sought the assistance of the Bamban municipal police station.
“Due to (the) swift action of our PNP personnel, the victim was successfully rescued and the five suspects were apprehended,” said Azurin.
“Alert police and private security personnel foiled a kidnapping attempt on (a) 53-year-old Malaysian businessman… with the arrest of a 33-year-old Malaysian suspect and four of his Filipino cohorts,” he added.
Azurin said the PNP will conduct further investigation to verify the motive of the suspects and their specific involvement in the incident.
