COTABATO Archbishop Angelito Lampon yesterday called on the people of Maguindanao to go out and vote on September 17 in the forthcoming plebiscite on the proposed division of the province into Maguindanao Del Norte and Maguindanao Del Sur.
In a radio interview, Lampon said they are strongly urging the people to come out and participate in the referendum. “My message is to go out and participate for the sake of a credible and democratic division of North and South Maguindanao,” said Lampon.
On the other hand, the prelate asked the government and security officials to make sure that voters will be able to safely and freely cast their votes.
“The Bangsamoro Comelec and Philippine National Police have designated police check points all over the Maguindanao Province. (Hopefully) the plebiscite will be peaceful,” said Lampon.
The Comelec is set to hold the plebiscite in Maguindanao on September 17 with 818,790 registered voters expected to cast their votes.
The Comelec will be holding the Maguindanao plebiscite, with the use of the manual system of voting, in accordance with Republic Act No. 11550.
