BY Sunday, September 18, it will be known if the province of Maguindanao will stay as one or will be split into Maguindanao Del Norte and Maguindanao Del Sur.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expects the result of the September 17 plebiscite to be known a day after it is conducted.

“We expect plebiscite results within September 18, 2022,” said acting Comelec Spokesman John Rex Laudiangco in a brief statement.

He, however, said they cannot project the time of the announcement of the results.

“That is dependent on the transmittal of the Plebiscite Returns (from the Plebiscite Committees) to the Plebiscite Board of Canvassers,” said Laudiangco.

This Saturday, the Comelec is set to hold the plebiscite in Maguindanao, with 818,790 registered voters expected to cast their votes in 467 voting centers.

The plebiscite aims to settle the question on whether the voters agree or disagree to divide Maguindanao into two provinces, as provided by Republic Act No. 11550.

Laudiangco said Comelec personnel are set to proceed to Maguindanao within the week for the holding of the plebiscite.

Last week, the Comelec deployed the official ballots and other forms and supplies to Maguindanao.
