A MAGNITUDE 5 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar early morning yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake occurred at 2:47 a.m. with the epicenter located some 12 kilometers west of Jipapapad town.
It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 37 kilometers.
An instrumental Intensity II shaking was recorded in Villareal town in Samar; Dulag town in Leyte; and Mapanas town in in Northern Samar.
Phivolcs also said an instrumental Intensity I shaking was observed in Basey town in Samar.
Phivolcs said it is not expecting damage from the quake but aftershocks are expected.
