Magnitude 5.6 quake hits Davao Oriental

A MAGNITUDE 5.6 earthquake jolted Davao Oriental yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said no damage was expected from the quake which occurred at around 11:12 a.m.

The quake’s epicenter was some 81 km southeast of Manay town in Davao Oriental. The quake, of tectonic in origin, had a depth of 59 km.

Solidum said Manay town felt the quake at Intensity 3 and Davao City, Intensity 2.

Solidum said the quake had no effect on houses because it was weak. He also said no tsunami because the quake was not that strong.

“Wala po silang dapat ipangamba patungkol po dun sa lindol kanina. Hindi po ito malakas.

Hindi yan damaging at hindi magdudulot ng tsunami. (They have nothing to worry about.

It’s not strong. It’s not damaging and it’s not going to generate tsunami),” he added. — Victor Reyes
