Magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocks Masbate

A MAGNITUDE 4.8 earthquake rocked Masbate yesterday morning, an aftershock of a stronger quake a few months ago.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake occurred at 4:23 a.m. Its epicenter was some 11 km southeast east of Cataingan town in Masbate. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 28 km.

Intensity 3 shaking was felt in Masbate City, and Intensity 2 in Irosin and Magallanes towns in Sorsogon.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the quake is considered an aftershock of the magnitude 6.6 quake that hit Masbate on August 18.

Solidum also said there was no report of damage.
