Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Zambales

A MAGNITUDE 4.7 earthquake rocked Zambales yesterday afternoon and shaking was felt as far as Metro Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs initially reported the quake at magnitude 4.8. It occurred at occurred at 3:16 p.m.

Its epicenter was some 28 km southwest of Palauig town in Zambales. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 38 km.

Shaking was felt at Intensity IV in Palauig, Phivolcs said.

Several cities in Metro Manila, specifically Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Quezon, Paranaque, Pasay and Pasig felt the shaking at Intensity III.

The other areas that felt the shaking at Intensity III were Alaminos City, Agno, Dasol, Infanta, and Labrador towns in Pangasinan; Obando town in Bulacan; Botolan, Cabangan, Iba, Masinloc, San Marcelino, and Santa Cruz towns in Zambales.

Intensity II shaking was felt in Makati and Taguig cities in Metro Manila; Dagupan City, Bautista and Bolinao towns in Pangasinan; Floridablanca town in Pampanga; and Olongapo City and Castillejos, San Antonio, San Felipe, and Subic towns in Zambales. — Victor Reyes
