THE Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. will back whoever would be elected to head the new association for the discipline, if it means settling the volleyball row in the country.
This was stressed by a highly-reliable Malaya-Business Insight source close to the LVPI, who said the group of former Philippine Olympic Committee first vice president Joey Romasanta is only waiting for the details of the elections for the new and official national sports association.
“Ang LVPI, we’re waiting for other clarifications but if it will serve the purpose of uniting volleyball in the Philippines, we’re for it,” the source said. “Sasama kami diyan para ma-unite na talaga.”
The polls are set on Jan. 25 at the East Ocean Seafoods restaurant in Parañaque City.
Ramon “Tats” Suzara is set to become the interim president of the soon-to-be formed body after POC president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino brokered a solution in a meeting with stakeholders last Jan. 16 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
That’s just fine.
“Sa akin, gusto ko lang makita ano iyong ground, or ano ang gagawin, ano ang trabaho niya (Suzara), ano iyong susundin nating constitution and by-laws,” the source said.
“Iyong personality, sa akin labas iyan. Basta iyong gagawin niya para sa volleyball, sa sport.”
Four seats in the board will be given reportedly each to the LVPI, Philippine Volleyball Federation, and a coalition headed by Suzara. A 13th seat will be given to a POC representative.
Suzara’s group will be given the president and secretary-general positions, the LVPI the vice-present and treasure slots, and the PVF the chairmanship and auditor posts.
Another election is reportedly set next year.
The source said the LVPI is just scrutinizing minor details.
“Mayroon silang sinasabi na isang seat sa board ay sa POC, bawal iyon. Sa POC charter, hindi puwede iyon. Iyong mga minor details lang, kina-klaro lang namin,” the source said.
“If it’s for the unity of Philippine volleyball, we are supporting it.”
