A LOW Pressure Area entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday even as typhoon “Liwayway” continued to head out of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.
As of 10 a.m. yesterday, the LPA was 860 km east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur but is less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next two days.
Weather specialist Gener Quitlong said the LPA is still too far away but “its outer cloud band is affecting eastern Mindanao, specifically Caraga region and Davao region.
Liwayway was 555 km northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m. yesterday with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph. It is moving north at 15 kph and expected to be 865 km north northeast of Basco this morning and 1,565 km north of Basco tomorrow.
In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said occasional gusty conditions may still occur in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region due to the southwest monsoon.
Moderate to intermittent heavy rains will be experienced over Batanes and Babuyan islands until today, the agency said.
The southwest monsoon will also bring scattered light to moderate rains (with at times isolated heavy rain showers during thunderstorms) over Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.
