LPA now tropical depression ‘Marlyn’

A LOW pressure area east of the Visayas developed into a tropical depression on Tuesday night and was named “Marilyn,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

Marilyn is expected to enter Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) tomorrow but “is less likely to make landfall,” PAGASA said.

It will bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms the Bicol Region, Mimaropa region, the Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora, Quezon, and Batangas.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

As of 10 a.m. yesterday, Marilyn was some 1,495 km east of Visayas, or still out of PAR. It was moving east northeast at 15 kph, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Marilyn is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm and will be some 1,390 east of Daet in Camarines Norte this morning (still out of PAR) and 1,150 km east of Aparri, Cagayan Friday morning (inside PAR).

Marilyn will some 965 km east of Basco, Batanes on Saturday morning, 1,225 km east northeast of Basco on Sunday morning, and 1,460 km east northeast of Basco (out of PAR) on Monday morning while maintaining its status as a tropical storm.
