A LOW pressure area in Palawan may intensify into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
The LPA, once it becomes a tropical depression, will be named “Betty,” the country’s second tropical cyclone.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the LPA was some 125 km east of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, PAGASA said.
PAGASA monitored the LPA off Mindanao a few days ago. Officials earlier said the LPA has a small chance of intensifying into a tropical depression.
Yesterday, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said there is “moderate to high chance that it will intensify into a weak tropical depression.”
“In case, we will name it Betty, the second tropical cyclone for 2023,” said Estareja.
The LPA was embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Palawan, Western Visayas, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and ITCZ.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorm.
