Actress Liza Soberano is about to embark on an exciting new adventure as she makes her highly anticipated Hollywood debut in the upcoming horror-comedy film, “Lisa Frankenstein,” presented by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International.

“Lisa Frankenstein” is a thrilling and captivating genre-bending romp, created by the brilliant and delightfully twisted minds of Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Diablo Cody, and the talented first-time feature director, Zelda Williams. This innovative film, inspired by Mary Shelley’s timeless classic, transports us back to 1989 suburbia, where we meet Lisa Swallows, played by the talented Kathryn Newton, known for her exceptional performances in “Big Little Lies” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.” Lisa’s clandestine pastime involves spending her free time at the eerie and abandoned Bachelor’s Grove cemetery, where she visits the grave of a young man who tragically passed away decades earlier. Little does she know this peculiar hobby will forever change the course of her life.

Kathryn Newton is joined by the incredibly talented and charismatic Cole Sprouse, recognized for his memorable roles on “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and the popular series, “Riverdale.” Together, they take center stage as the movie’s captivating leads.

With a screenplay penned by Diablo Cody, who previously mesmerized audiences with her award-winning work on “Juno,” “Lisa Frankenstein” revolves around the story of Lisa Swallows. Through an accidental turn of events during a thunderous lightning storm, Lisa inadvertently reanimates a handsome corpse from the Victorian era, portrayed by Sprouse. As the narrative unfolds, this unlikely pair embarks on a darkly humorous and thrilling journey in search of love, happiness, and a few missing body parts.

Love and romance flourish amidst the backdrop of the 1980s, as this unique and captivating coming-of-rage love story deftly blends comedy, romance, and fantasy. Within this enchanting tale, Liza takes on the role of Taffy, Lisa’s stepsister, adding her unique charm and talent to the mix.

Reflecting on her involvement in “Lisa Frankenstein,” Liza fondly recalls her initial meeting with director Zelda Williams during a trip to Los Angeles.

“I met Zelda in a trip to LA, and she brought up this project. I was instantly hooked,” Soberano recalls. “It’s amazing because the day I met her was the same day the studio greenlit the project. When she found out it was a go…they’ve got their main leads lined-up. They were looking to fill other roles. [She asked me] ‘How about auditioning for one?’ I was like, ‘Sure, let me check out the script. If it’s something that interests me, I’m in.’ And when I saw Diablo Cody was on board, I just had to audition for it.”

Soberano is very excited and grateful for the opportunity. “It’s set in the ‘80s, so the whole look – the hair, makeup – is totally ‘80s, which is new for me,” she says. “It’s the kind of movie I’ve always wanted to do. It has horror, comedy, and romance in one. I was looking for a role that would really push me. Sure, it’s a huge risk for my career, but that’s what’s exciting about it. I know I’ve learned a lot no matter how it turns out. That’s what counts.”

Joining Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, and Liza Soberano are Joe Chrest from “Stranger Things,” Henry Eikenberry from “The Crowded Room,” and Carla Gugino from “San Andreas.”

“Lisa Frankenstein” is now in cinemas in time for Valentine’s Day.
