“LIWAYWAY” yesterday intensified into a storm from a tropical depression as it continued to bring more rains to many parts of Luzon.
However, Liwayway “remains less likely to make landfall” and is expected to be outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA also said it has monitored a new low pressure area at 490 km west of Iba in Zambales.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Liwayway was some 400 km east northeast of Baler, Aurora. It was moving at 30 kph, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
PAGASA said Cagayan Valley and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Liwayway.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula regions will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms like the rest of Central Luzon and the provinces of Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and Basilan.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Liwayway is projected to be at 265 km east of Calayan, Cagayan today, 295 km northeast of Basco in Batanes on Wednesday, and 475 km north northeast of Basco on Thursday.
By Friday, it is expected to be 740 km north northeast of Basco, which is outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
