Lino Cayetano returns to filmmaking

It’s back to filmmaking for Lino Cayetano.

After serving as Taguig mayor for one term, the director-producer is returning behind the cameras.

At a press con on Tuesday, Cayetano said he has a new project, the suspense-thriller-romance series called “Nananahimik ang Gabi.” It stars Ian Veneracion and Heaven Peralejo and is produced by Lino and his partners Philip King and Shugo Praico under their own company, Rein Entertainment.

Cayetano is excited about “Nananahimik ang Gabi” and only has good words about his stars.

For his dream project, the 44-year-old has set a simple goal: To inspire.

“Sa akin, malaking pondo o maliit man, ‘yung mga pelikula at kwentong mahalaga sa akin ay ‘yung talagang nagbibigay inspirasyon sa mga kababayan natin so I think ‘yun ‘yung natutunan ko talaga sa tagal sa industriya,” he said, “Ang rami nating pwedeng gawin sa larangan ng pulitika, public service, pero ‘yung unique talaga sa industriya natin is we are able to inspire ang give hope. A lot of the movies I’d like to make, socio-political, family drama, pero I think ang common theme nya is nagbibigay siya ng inspiration.”

Cayetano, a supporter of Isko Moreno who had an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in the last elections, said he is upbeat about the future of Philippine cinema if the local industry can get its act together. He believes that the industry people need to work hand in hand. With that in mind, he said he is open to working with the present administration.

“Sinabi ko nga kanina, I think the success of President Marcos is the success of every Filipino so dapat sa akin bilang Pilipino, kahit sino ang binoto or sinupurtahan, ako I am a proud supporter of Mayor Isko Moreno pero nung nanalo at binoto ng sambayanang Pilipino si Pangulong Marcos, ako rin nagbibigay ng buong suporta sa ating Pangulo. He has to be successful so that every Filipino will be successful,” he said.

He is also willing to work with his ex, KC Concepcion, who is involved in a movie project in the US. Lino said: “I’m happy for KC at mga mga kababayan natin who are doing movies and projects overseas. Lahat po, pati Filipino na lumaki abroad na gumagawa ng pelikula dun, lumalabas sa mga pelikula dun, Filipinos dun na gumagawa dito para magtrabago, para sa akin, lahat ng trabaho ng Pilipino sa harap man or sa likod ng camera….”

In 2019, the former Taguig mayor co-produced and wrote the crime-drama “Bagman.” He is known for directing “Aryana,” several episodes of “Maalala-Ala Mo Kaya,” and “Starstruck.”
