“None,” Tang told Malaya-Business Insight. Life goes on for Tang after College of St. Benilde laid off the coaches and staff of its varsity teams last July 28.
“For now, I’m trying to learn life skills in this lockdown but being stuck with my family is already a blessing. I lift it up to Him for what’s in store for me,” said Tang. “Things will be fine in His time and grace.”
A former pro league playmaker who suited up for eight seasons, all with Rain or Shine, Tang said the laid off coaches, reportedly including Fil-Chinese tactician Jerry Yee of the women’s volleyball squad and men’s counterpart Arnold Laniog, are set to leave today.
The athletics office will likely take care of the athletes, according to Tang.
“We are to leave on Aug. 31,” noted Tang. “So, from then on, maybe the athletics office will be in charge of all its scholars.”
CSB athletic director Stephen Fernandez said last June 24 that the school will keep its close to 280 athletic scholars in 17 sports for the next school year.
The athletes were spared, but not the coaches and staff.
With the country’s COVID-19 pandemic woes having no end in sight, the NCAA is eyeing to launch its 96th season, set to be hosted by Letran, early next year, with only the mandatory sports such as basketball, volleyball, swimming, and track and field in its slate.
Online chess has been added to the league calendar, while esports will most likely be included.
The Blazers finished with a 9-9 card, good for fifth, in the last NCAA cage wars.
