Letran jin wins gold

LETRAN taekwondo jin Luke Mortel shone last Saturday in the boy’s junior’s featherweight division of the NCAA 96th season speed kicking competition.

Mortel tallied 6.367 points to bag the gold, while Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Kristian Reggae Domondon had 6.342 to cop the silver.

San Beda University’ Marlex Mercado completed the podium by taking the bronze with 6.200 points.

Others who competed in the division were Kimichi Ramirez of College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills, Aaron Isaac Sevilla of San Sebastian College, and Don Marco Ancheta of Lyceum.

In the boy’s junior’s lightweight division, Red Cub Philip Joshua Lee came away with the mint with 7.083 points, while two Brigadiers in Leigh Cyril Aslarona (6.108) and Aubrey Gacilos (5.942) won the silver and bronze, respectively.

Arellano University’s Simon Regalario, Lyceum’s Kier Lawrence Mesina, San Sebastian’s Justin Pierre Echiverri and San Beda’s Orbivitano Diaz made up the rest of the field.

The NCAA pushed through with its new season with online events, with the basketball and volleyball tournaments getting mothballed.

Among the options the country’s oldest collegiate league considered was holding its season in a bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna
