VICE President Leni Robredo wants the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to allow her office to continue with its COVID-19 response projects even during the campaign period next year.
The opposition presidential candidate said her camp is preparing a petition asking the poll body to allow the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to continue its pandemic response operations, vowing to isolate it from politics.
“The only problem we see now is since I’m a candidate, I’m the head of office, and by February 8, it’s already the campaign period, so we’re planning to ask , we’re preparing a petition so that our office may continue) “ Robredo said in Filipino at the OVP’s Vaccine Express initiative in Pasay City.
She vowed not to attend the vaccination operations so that it would not be painted with politics.
She said the OVP’s Vaccine Express, Swab Cab, and Bayanihan E-konsulta have to be allowed to be continue because these are badly needed by the public, especially since the new Omicron variant has already been detected in the country.
Robredo urged government to increase the alert level “given the lessons we took from the past.”
She said vaccination “needs to be ramped up, because most of the infected are those unvaccinated or those who are fully vaccinated but are yet to receive booster shot.”
Robredo also vowed to be a “hands-on” president, if elected.
“I am very hands on. I will not go to a place just to inspect, and my constituents know this. Before, during and after the disaster strikes. I am there as long as I am needed, not just because I need to show up,” she said.
