VICE President Leni Robredo yesterday rallied supporters in Batangas, telling them not to lose hope even is she is facing an uphill battle in her presidential run “because nothing is impossible.”

In a meeting with Batangas District 4 volunteers in Padre Garcia town, the opposition’s presidential candidate reminded her campaign volunteers that she won the vice presidency in 2016 despite being at the bottom of surveys.

“Noong panahon na iyon, wala pang nag-aakala na mananalo ako pero dahil sa pagdesisyon din ng mga kasama, nagawa ‘yung akala nating imposible. Hindi din imposible na magagawa ulit natin iyon ngayon na 2022 (At the time, no one thought I’d win but because of the decision of our allies to push through, we did what we thought was impossible. It’s not impossible to do it again this 2022),” she said.

Present in the meeting were Mayor Celsa Rivera, Vice Mayor Noel Cantos and Rep. Linda Bolilia who helped Robredo win big in the province, especially in the fourth district which she represents.

“We have only 88 campaign days left. I hope we don’t get tired that during these 88 days. Let’s not lose hope,” she said in Filipino.

The 56-year-old widow of the late former interior secretary Jesse Robredo reminded the crowd that at the start of the 2016 vice presidential race, her survey rating was pegged at 2 percent, the lowest among all six candidates.

“But because of our decision to work hard, introduce myself and discuss our programs, our ratings gradually went up until the Election period came and we won and Batangas was a big reason for it),” she said.

Robredo beat Marcos in the 2016 vice presidential race by a slim margin of 263,473 votes.

Her survey numbers for the presidential race significantly improved early last month, from 8 to 20 percent in the latest Pulse Asia survey, which is second only to former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos who was the choice of 53 percent of the respondents.

On Wednesday, Robredo, her running mate Sen. Francis Pangilinan and some members of their “Tropang Angat” senatorial slate attended a rally in Sorsogon hosted by Gov. Francis Escudero who is a guest candidate in their slate.

While he had nothing but praises for Vice President Leni Robredo, Escudero did not categorically endorse his fellow Bicolano who was among her rivals in the 2016 vice presidential race.

Escudero has also hosted the tandem of Marcos and Sara Duterte-Carpio in the province.

The governor, who is also a guest candidate in the respective slates of presidential bets Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, said Robredo has long shown what she is capable of doing to help not only the Bicol Region but the entire country.

“I am proud to introduce to you, the hardworking, kind, trustworthy and honest, the lone female presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo,” Escudero said in Bicolano, adding that the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem has the track record to back up their claims.

Escudero said Robredo is not just a daughter of Bicol but also of Sorsogon since her late father, Antonio Gerona, hails from the town of Bulan.
