VICE President Leni Robredo has no plan to join the government of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as of now even if she is offered a post, her spokesman Ibarra Gutierrez said yesterday.
“… she is yet to be offered a government post but for now, her focus ay ang maayos na pagtatapos ng kaniyang termino (Her focus to end her term smoothly),” Gutierrez said in an interview with One PH on Wednesday night.
He said Robredo would focus on her plan to re-launch her Angat Buhay program as a non-government organization (NGO), with the biggest number of volunteers working to help indigents.
“She will work as a private citizen who is part of civil society, a non-government organization that will strive to continue serving our countrymen. Right now, that’s her focus. Returning to government service is not in the agenda, not on the horizon now),” Gutierrez said in mixed Filipino and English.
The incoming President’s sister Sen. Imee Marcos earlier said “everything is possible” when asked if the opposition leader would be invited to join her brother’s administration since his campaign promise focuses on “unity.”
Sen. Marcos even said her brother’s ticket was not called “UniTeam” for nothing, stressing that “it’s not a mere slogan, it’s a real platform of government.”
Gutierrez said Robredo is now focused on wrapping up all the programs and projects of the Office of the Vice President and having a smooth transition of power as Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio is set to assume the post on June 30.
Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Robredo’s running mate, earlier said he would meet with the outgoing Vice President soon to discuss his role in the Angat Buhay NGO which Robredo plans to launch on July 1, a day after she steps down from office.
Angat Buhay is an anti-poverty program which uses the the help of the private sector resources to augment the meager budget of the OVP.
