Leni: ‘Fake news alert, fake photos’

VICE President Leni Robredo yesterday sounded the alarm about the fake photos circulating on social media that are obviously meant to put her in a bad light with only two months before the campaign period for the 2022 national election begins.

Robredo was referring to a badly edited photo circulating on Facebook, which shows a sea of people wearing her pink signature campaign color to make it appear that the opposition presidential aspirant’s supporters are violating health protocols in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The altered picture is similar to aerial shots of a packed bridge in Manila during a Black Nazarene procession.

Another fake picture shows Robredo selling fish at a market, a supposed publicity stunt.

Using her slogan “Mas radikal ang magmahal (It is more radical to love),” Robredo said in a Facebook post, “Fake news alert. Radical magmahal lalo na pag Linggo (more so on a Sunday).”

She said the badly edited picture were “obviously done to put us in a bad light.”

“Hindi po tayo magpapatinag (We will not be fazed). Let us report posts like these),” she added.

Just last month, Robredo’s daughter Aika was targeted by trolls who claimed said her acceptance to Harvard Kennedy School must be revoked because her tuition was from stolen taxpayers’ money. The Vice President said her daughter is a full scholar.

Meanwhile, 165 party-list groups have been allowed to participate in a December 10 raffle of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), which will determine the order of listing in official ballots for the May 2022 polls
