THE camp of opposition presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo continued to conduct house-to-house campaigning, with eldest daughter Aika leading visits to areas in Metro Manila, which are considered bailiwicks of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Along with 300 of 400 volunteers, Aika on Sunday visited Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City, a known bailiwick of Benhur Abalos, Marcos’ campaign manager.
While some die-hard Marcos supporters flashed his trademark “V” sign when Aika and the volunteers from the city arrived, they still listened to the Vice President’s daughter as she discussed her mother’s plans and programs for the country.
After Mandaluyong, Robredo and the volunteers proceeded to Barangay Corazon de Jesus in San Juan City whose mayor, Francis Zamora, is another known Marcos supporter.
Last Saturday, Robredo and her running mate Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan drew their biggest crowd so far since the beginning of the campaign period last February, gathering some 220,000 supporters in Pampanga, the turf of former President and House speaker Gloria Arroyo who has declared support for Marcos and his running mate, Sara Duterte-Carpio.
The Vice President’s daughter was joined by Tropang Angat senatorial candidate and labor leader Sonny Matula in trying to convince residents to vote for Robredo.
“Nagpapasalamat ako dahil kahit Linggo ay kasama namin kayo. Kayo talaga ang puso ng kampanya dahil hindi tayo makakapag-ikot kung hindi namin kayo kasama (I’m grateful because you’re with me even on a Sunday. You are truly the heart of the campaign because we can’t go around like this without you),” Aika later told the volunteers.
Early this month, Aika also campaigned door to door in Quezon City with celebrity endorser Marjorie Barreto and thousands of volunteers, giving away pamphlets, baller bracelets and tarpaulins.
The house-to-house campaigning is another way of shifting the fight from social media where fake news has become prevalent.
“Iyong request ko lang, kahit hindi niyo ako kasama, ituloy-tuloy natin ito araw-araw. Itodo natin hanggang Mayo, para maipanalo natin ito (My only request is even if I’m not with you, continue doing this every day. Let’s do our best until May so we can win this),” Aika said.
The house-to-house campaign highlights the Vice President’s “Oplan Angat Agad” platform, which is focused on employment, health and education.
Under her “Oplan Angat Agad” platform, Robredo aims to assure that at least one family member is receiving a monthly salary while those who lost their job will get a three-month financial assistance while looking for employment.
When it comes to health, Robredo has committed to provide each family with a free doctor and to make health care affordable for all Filipinos. She also aims to provide quality education to students that would help them secure their dream jobs in the future.
