A LAWYER, radio commentator, and vlogger will serve as press secretary of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) and as head of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles was social media strategist at the PCOO under the Duterte administration from July 2017 to 2018.

Incoming Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez said Cruz-Angeles’ primary task would be to oversee PCOO operations which include the conduct of regular press briefings on the activities of the president and the events in Malacañang. Marcos, in previous interviews, said he was not keen on appointing a spokesperson.

Cruz-Angeles, in a statement, said she is “grateful for the opportunity I am given to take part in the administration of President Bongbong Marcos as his press secretary. It is with humility that I accept the nomination and assume the responsibility of running the affairs of the PCOO.”

Cruz-Angeles, an anchor for the radio program Karambola over DWIZ, had represented military officers charged with rebellion and mutiny.

She also served as commissioner for Cultural Heritage of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts and as spokeswoman of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

She is a former lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila University and the Institute for Cultural and Arts Management, former publisher of online publication Politiko, and former columnist for online news agency Inquirer.Net.

She earned her law degree at the University of the Philippines and is taking an International Relations degree at the University of Minnesota in US and a master’s degree in Archaeology in UP.

She joins Rodriguez and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio in the Marcos Cabinet.

Duterte-Carpio will head the Department of Education. Also named earlier were Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. as interior secretary, Crispin Remulla as justice secretary, Bienvenido Laguesma as labor secretary, and Susan Ople as secretary for migrant workers.
