Lanao del Sur mayor survives ambush

MAYOR Nasser Pangandaman Jr. of Masiu town in Lanao del Sur escaped unscathed in an ambush staged by unidentified men in Buadiposo town in the same province yesterday morning.

However, a police security escort of Pangandaman and a civilian were injured in the attack, according to a report from the Lanao del Sur provincial police office.

“Mayor Pangandaman had escaped unharmed,” the report said.

Injured where Pangandaman’s escort, Jabar Romato Pangandaman, and an unidentified civilian. They were brought to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City.

Pangandaman is a son of Nasser Pangandaman Sr., who served as secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform from July 2005 to June 2010 during the time of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Police said the mayor’s convoy was in Barangay Gata when unidentified men opened fired at around 10 a.m.

Investigations are ongoing.

The younger Pangandaman has been supporting government’s war against drugs. In September, he facilitated the surrender of five illegal drug peddlers who turned over four firearms and assorted ammunition.
