THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported lahar flow, caused by heavy rains, at Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon on Sunday night.

In an advisory yesterday, Phivolcs said the lahar flow started at 7:04 p.m. and was observed at the southwestern portion of the volcano, specifically in Barangay Cogon in Irosin town.

“The event lasted 54 minutes during a period of thunderstorm over Sorsogon province,” it said.

Phivolcs said ocular investigation conduced by the Bulusan Volcano Observatory “confirmed thin channel-confined lahar deposits” along Calang Creek in Barangay Cogon.

The creek, Phivolcs said, is the “major channel draining the southwestern slopes of Bulusan.”
