POLICEMEN arrested on Wednesday afternoon Antonio Luis Marquez, popularly known as Angelo “Ador” Mawanay, who accused Sen. Panfilo of Lacson of involvement in criminal activities years ago.
Marquez, 47, was nabbed by members of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at around 5:30 p.m. in Greenwood Subdivision, Pasig City on the strength of an arrest warrant for estafa.
The warrant was issued on June 27, 2017 by Judge Ma. Consejo Gengos Ignalaga of the Antipolo City Regional Trial Court Branch 100. A bail of P40,000 was set for Marquez’ temporary liberty.
Before the arrest, the CIDG said it received a complaint from a physician about the alleged failure of Marquez to deliver P12 million worth of face masks that the doctor ordered at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect was monitored selling medical supplies, particularly face masks online, promising fast or ASAP (as soon as possible) delivery,” the CIDG said in a statement.
“Once payment is made, he will then block the numbers of his customers and never completes the transactions; hence, no deliveries were ever made or completed,” the CIDG added.
The CIDG later learned that Marquez has standing arrest warrants issued by Quezon City, San Juan City and Antipolo City courts.
“When the CIDG got verification from the RTC Antipolo City, they immediately planned and executed the service of WOA (warrant of arrest) against Mawanay,” the CIDG said.
The CIDG said it is investigating the estafa case lodged by the doctor against Marquez.
In 2001, Marquez and then Intelligence Service of the AFP head Brig. Gen. Victor Corpus accused Lacson of involvement in criminal activities during his time as PNP chief. They claimed Lacson had foreign bank accounts containing hundreds of millions of dollars from his illegal activities.
Marquez and Corpus later recanted their statements and apologized to Lacson, saying their allegations were baseless.
