THE Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) yesterday looked forward to the ratification by the Senate of the International Labor Organization (ILO) protocol on workplace safety.
In a statement, the group said it expects the ratification of Convention 190 (C190), which tackles violence and harassment in places of work.
“Ratification is an important step towards creating a social and policy environment that unequivocally rejects violence and harassment against workers,” the group said.
“We are now at the last leg for the acceptance of an instrument that will help us create comprehensive protection for workers. We collectively look forward to the Senate’s concurrence on the instrument,” it added.
The labor group said it is looking forward to empowering workers in preventing violence and harassment in the workplace.
“With the Convention’s broad definition of the world of work, all forms of physical, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse experienced by working people can now be tackled cooperatively by workers, employers, and governments,” it said.
The Senate was expected to begin the ratification process for the ILO C190 yesterday.
Adopted in 2019, C190 aims to ensure that the workplace is free from violence and harassment.
