Labor group rejects staggered wage hike proposal

THE Nagkaisa Labor Coalition (NAGKAISA) yesterday expressed opposition to the proposal for a legislated wage hike that shall be provided to workers on a staggered basis.

“The proposal to grant workers a legislated wage hike based on a staggered basis is not acceptable,” NAGKAISA said in a statement.

The labor organization said this is because such a scheme will make the legislated wage hike no different from the wage orders being issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).

“The immediate need of workers is grappling with inflation-induced wage erosion, thus the demand for P150 or higher wage increase,” the group said.

To recall, Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion expressed support for the proposed legislated wage hike but added that it should not be implemented wholly.

Concepcion’s proposal comes after the Senate approved a measure setting a P100 daily minimum wage hike for workers.

The House of Representatives has started hearing several bills seeking across-the-board wage increases for workers in the private sector.
