OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested last Monday a Korean wanted by Seoul for defrauding some 800 victims of some 5.18 billion won or P215 million.
The suspect, Choi Seung, 36, was nabbed in front of the Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa City, said PNP public information office chief Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba.
Alba said Seung was nabbed by CIDG operatives in collaboration with personnel from the Fugitive Search Unit of the Bureau of Immigration and Korean Desk.
“The suspect…is listed under the Interpol Red Notice for allegedly committing this transnational crime,” said Alba.
“Reports gathered by the PNP reveal that the subject is head of a Tele scam syndicate obtaining P215 million from some 800 victims from 2015 to 2016,” Alba added.
Alba said the PNP will coordinate with authorities in Korea “to determine the proceedings in handling this case.”
PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said: “The PNP is always ready to respond to complaints especially if it involves a large-scale fraud such as this.
“…(T)his is a team effort so we recognize the dedication shown by everyone in the organization to resolving cases involving foreign nationals,” added Azurin.
