IMMIGRATION agents recently apprehended a South Korean and Taiwanese wanted in their countries for illegal drugs.

Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit chief Ryan Rendel Sy said Korean Choi Sungeon and Taiwanese Tsai Tsung Yu were arrested in separate operations in Pasay and Paranaque last Thursday.

Choi, who was caught inside a hotel room in Tramo, Pasay City, was nabbed based on a deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners in 2019 for being an undesirable alien.

He has also been tagged as an undocumented alien after his passport was cancelled by the South Korean government.

“He is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a district court in South Korea where he is charged with trading psychotropic substances in violation of his country’s narcotics control act,” Sy said of Choi.

He said Choi used social media to peddle illegal drugs and receive money from clients.

BI records showed that Choi arrived in the country in 2017 as a tourist and has not left the country since then.

Tsai, who goes by the alias Cai Zong-You, has an outstanding warrant issued by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for drug trafficking.

Sy said their records showed that Tsai is an overstaying alien whose visa expired more than a year ago.

Meanwhile, police seize ₱99,960 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested a jobless man in a buy-bust operation in Pasig City last Saturday.
