FIL-AM sprinter Kristina Knott inched closer to achieving her Olympic dream with strong performances yesterday (Saturday in the US) in the women’s 100 and 200-meter sprints of the star-studded LSU Alumni Gold trackfest at the Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
With barely an hour’s rest in between races, Knott finished fifth in the century dash, clocking 11.28 seconds, while ending up third in the 200-meter run in 23:17 seconds in the meet graced by reigning world men’s pole vault king and LSU alum Mondo Duplantis.
Duplantis, who holds the world record of 6.18 meters and is the top bet for gold in the Tokyo Olympic Games, did not disappoint hometown fans, clearing 5.90 meters to top the event.
A double gold medalist in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Knott’s time in the 100-meter run was just a shade off her national mark of 11.27 seconds set last August in the Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Des Moines, Iowa.
Two-time US national women’s 100-meter champion and Louisiana State University alumni Aleia Hobbs ruled the century sprint in 10.91 seconds while Tamara Clark (10.96) and Mikia Brisco (11.02) were second and third, respectively.
