IMMIGRATION authorities have arrested in Bukidnon a convicted pedophile from New Zealand who is wanted by authorities in his country where he was twice charged and convicted for sexually abusing children.
Bureau of Immigration Acting Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said Alan James Linton was apprehended last August 23 at Sugarland Subdivision in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
Manahan said Linton was arrested based on the operation order issued by Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente after his New Zealand counterpart briefed him on the fugitive’s criminal records and informed him that he is in the country.
Manahan said New Zealand authorities described Linton as a potential risk to Filipino children either through physical contact or via the Internet due to his record as a pedophile.
Linton is presently detained at the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending issuance of a deportation order against him by the bureau’s Board of Commissioners.
Immigration personnel also arrested two Chinese in Samar who were caught selling retail goods without the proper work permit and visa.
Manahan said Wu Zhijie, 26; and Wu Jiajiang, 51; were arrested last August 28 in Catbalogan City.
He said the operation was carried out after the bureau’s regional office in Samar received complaints from small Filipino traders in Catbalogan alleging that the two were selling retail goods.
“They failed to present any travel or immigration documents when confronted by the arresting agents,” Manahan said.
The two Chinese nationals were brought to Manila and are now detained at the bureau’s facility in Bicutan while their deportation papers are being prepared.
