Kin of Pinay worker infected with UK variant test negative

TEN relatives of the Filipina overseas worker who recently tested positive for the United Kingdom variant of the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19) tested negative in rapid and antigen tests conducted on them, Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba said on Sunday.

Mamba said health authorities and the family of the Filipina worker are still awaiting the result of the RT-PCR tests done on the 10 relatives, whom the governor said were residents of Solana town in Cagayan.

“Nag-negative po sila sa antigen swab test and antibody rapid test at asymptomatic naman po lahat ‘yung sampu (They tested negative in their antigen and antibody rapid tests. They are all asymptomatic,” Mamba said, adding that while waiting for the result of their RT-PCR tests, all 10 are on home quarantine.

Mamba said the antigen, rapid and RT-PCR tests were conducted by personnel of the Department of Health-Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit, Provincial Health Office and the Solana Municipal Health Office.

Reports said the Filipina overseas worker left the province on December 17 and underwent quarantine upon arrival in the Manila office of her recruitment agency. She tested negative for COVID-19 during RT-PCR testing prior to her departure for Hong Kong on December 22.

The female worker also tested negative for COVID-19 upon arrival in Hongkong. On January 2, after 10 days in quarantine, the Filipina again underwent another RT-PCR test and this time tested positive of the UK variant of the COVID virus.

The province of Cagayan has 204 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 118 are recorded in Tuguegarao City, the province’s capital. There are 20 COVID-19 infections cases in Solana town, where the family of the female worker lives.
