Dropping more than 50 pounds but gaining a weightier insight on life seems to be how best to describe actor Kelvin Miranda now.

Kelvin, the star of the romantic movie “Chances Are You and I” by director Catherine O. Camarillo, has lost a lot of weight due to intense workout, martial arts and discipline. He has also included fasting and meditation in the mix, resulting in a sharper focus and amazing maturity that were very evident in a recent interview with the actor at Coffee Project at the Wil Tower in Quezon City.

Kelvin admitted he has learned from past mistakes, including being naive, falling for his co-stars and having a hard time detaching from his screen personas.

“Actually, halos sa lahat [ng leading ladies] nagkaka feelings ako,” he confessed, “parang sa sobrang pag i- internalize ko or devoted sa project , parang nararadaman ko talaga ang character, kaya kailangan ko ng break, two to three months, hanggang sa mawala sa sistema ko. Nadadala ko talaga hanggang sa bahay.”

But he has changed. Slowly but surely, Kelvin has learned to set boundaries and is better at knowing which is for reel and real.

With his clearer outlook now, fitter physique and overall better mental strength, he said what he wants is to make a name for himself.

“Gusto ko magkaroon ng pagkakaiba sa ibang leading men na nahihilera, mga kasama ko sa trabaho,” he intoned, “Gusto ko meron puso kung ano ang character na gagampanan ko, hindi lang na de-deliver ‘yung lines, pero maramdaman ng mga nanonood ang natural.”

The actor is out to prove his mettle and versatility, open to whatever role that comes his way and is just grateful for the opportunity to prove himself.

He is happy to be part of “Chances Are, You and I” with young actress Kira Balinger. The Pocket Media production has Kelvin playing Gabriel “Gabi” Sinag and Kira, Soleil “Soul” Sikat. Polar opposites in philosophies about life and death, the two share similar circumstances and decide to take a journey to happiness.

Joining Kelvin and Kira are Al Tantay, Gian Magdangal, Anna Feo, Tart Carlos and introduces Jinho Bae.

“Chance Are, You and I” is distributed by Regal Entertainment and features the music of Juan Karlos Labajo and SB19.

It opens in cinemas starting May 29.
