THE police chief of Kawit, Cavite and one of his men were relieved from their posts following the escape of three detainees from the town police jail on Monday.
Calabarzon regional police director Brig. Eliseo Cruz said administrative charges are also being readied against Maj. Joel Palmares and jailer Staff Sgt. Ryan de Guzman.
“Major Joel Palmares was relieved from his post as COP (chief of police) Kawit of MPS (municipal police station) and an administrative charge for command responsibility is being prepared against him,” said Cruz.
Cruz said De Guzman, the duty jailer at that time of the jail break, was likewise relieved “and appropriate administrative and criminal charges are being prepared against him.”
The relief of the two came after three inmates — Tristan Antonio, Rhino Reyes Ortega, and Jon-jon Cortesano-Portez, who are facing theft, carnapping, and sale of illegal drugs, respectively, escaped on Monday by destroying the padlock of their jail.
Cruz said Ortega later surrendered. He said pursuit operations are ongoing to re-arrest the two other others.
