THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) yesterday filed before the Department of Justice a P168 million tax evasion complaint against the wife of Kapa Community Ministry International founder Joel Apolinario.
The BIR said Reyna Apolinario, the corporate secretary of Kapa, violated the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997 for her failure to file her income tax return for 2012 to 2015.
“In the course of the investigation, it was found that Reyna Apolinario has not filed her income tax returns for taxable years 2012 – 2015 but filed an ITR for taxable year 2016 declaring an income of only P206, 578.00. She also declared income for taxable years 2017 and 2018 of P171, 100.00 and P12. 06 million, respectively,” the BIR complaint stated.
But, the BIR noted, that in 2018, the declared beginning capital of Mrs. Apolinario as stated in her audited financial statements ballooned to P306.90 million.
“Considering the previous income declarations and payments of Mrs. Apolinario, this points to undeclared sources of income amounting to P306.70 million for taxable year 2017, which includes cash of P140 million, luxury vehicles amounting to P27.60 million, heavy equipment of P65.70 million, and real estate properties of P45.10 million, and other assets and investments,” the BIR said.
The agency likewise obtained a list from the Land Transportation Office showing that nine vehicles were registered under Mrs. Apolinario’s name in 2017 and 2018 but which were not declared in the financial statements she submitted to the BIR.
