AN official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday urged graduates of the K to 12 Program to consider getting certifications from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to enhance their chances of being employed.
In a radio interview, CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE) Vice Chairman Bishop Daniel Presto said Senior High School (SHS) graduates should secure additional reasons for employers to hire them.
“To those that cannot find jobs, let us be patient and persevere. There are many ways for us to find employment opportunities,” said Presto.
“We encourage our graduates of K-12 to get TESDA’s certification of assessment,” he added.
“By the guidance and blessings of the Lord, may He give you the perseverance and firm resolve to find jobs,” said Presto.
TESDA provides the assessment and certification of the competencies services for skilled workers through Philippine TVET Competency Assessment and Certification System (PTCACS).
The assessment process seeks to determine whether the graduate or worker can perform to the standards expected in the workplace based on the defined competency standards, while the certification is provided to those who will meet the competency standards.
Earlier, the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) appealed to the business sector to consider hiring those who have graduated from the K to 12 Program.
The appeal came after the Department of Education (DepEd) reported that only 10 percent of SHS graduates were employed, while some 83 percent of SHS graduates opted to pursue higher education.
