THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is still looking into the possible impact of the Pasig River Expressway (PAREx) project which has drawn flak from various groups and has yet to decide whether an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) would be issued or not.
“What we’re trying to do is evaluate this issue called the cumulative impact, and this is the same approach that we’re taking with the various ECCs that have been given in areas where there are multiple projects that are in a single ecosystem,” Environment Secretary Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga said yesterday during a briefing in Malacanang.
She said there is no timeline as to when DENR will decide on the ECC, adding she may come up with an update or statement about the issue next week.
San Miguel Corporation is building a 19.37-kilometer toll road along the Pasig River’s easement that will link the eastern and western sections of Metro Manila — from Rizal province to the City of Manila.
The P95-billion project broke ground in September 2021.
The project was slammed by environmental, science, transport, and heritage groups due to its possible negative environmental impact.
